Company: Fuel Change
Why I joined: I believe in the power of community and the ability of bottom up movement to make change happen.
What I hope to get from it: As much as I put into it!! In reality I want to help as many members in any way I can. I am sure if I do that then I will equally receive support where necessary.
What I do in business: Personally I spend most of my time in business developing and implementing longer term strategies for business growth. However an increasing amount of time is now spent furthering the aims and objectives of Fuel Change. The organisation was established to create a carbon neutral future for the next generation – designed by the next generation. Working with lots of young people energises me to do more and accelerate the strategy of Fuel Change – so networking and spreading our purpose is fast becoming the day job!
Optionally share a hobby or passions I am happy sharing to the community: I have been a director of Stenhousemuir Football Club for 33 years so its safe to say it’s a passion!! For 90 minutes every week I am barely recognisable as my emotions take over – COVID has set that aside for now so I have no outlet for now.
Personal actions I have taken or plan in their NetZero journey: I am a hypocrite like so many others. I do not practice what I preach and have not made enough or sufficient changes to my habits to make a difference. However my air travel before Fuel Change was off the scale and I will never return to that. I believe many of the enforced habits of lockdown can and should be embedded and I will ensure I do.
Company actions I have taken to accelerate NetZero: Fuel Change is a new organisation and I have outlined our purpose – entirely based on tackling NetZero and turning the drive to get there into jobs and skills of the future. As a company born in lockdown then our company policies have not evolved – we have no excuse to not meet every requirement to meet netzero outcomes.
What expertise, knowledge, services or products they can offer to other members to accelerate their NetZero path: I would ask every company to consider what we as Fuel Change are doing as an organisation. We are a social enterprise set up to provide the next generation with a platform to take control of their future – we have done that through challenging them to work together on low carbon challenges, real challenges set by industry. The outcomes have been fantastic. Come and speak to us about having your young people participate in the Fuel Change programme. Not only will they make a difference and display their talents, they will also grow and develop along the way. Everyone is welcome!
Finally, Something people might not know about you that makes you memorable:
Mmmmmm – tough one. That’s for others to decide and not me!! I was 30 years with a company Jacobs and not once did I speak to another company nor go for another interview. So I could be memorable for my loyalty – or memorable for my lack of adventure!!
