Company: New Energy Scotland
Why I joined: I want to make a difference in the race to net zero and I believe people generally fall into two groups. The first group are the ones who think they never caused it and it is down to the ones who did, to fix it. The second group are the people who see this as a huge opportunity and the chance to take ownership of the issue with a view to improving it and leaving a lasting legacy. I am firmly in the second group.
What I hope to get from it: I hope to gain more knowledge of the issues and hopefully assist and collaborate with others to achieve a common goal.
What I do in business: I like to invent things and have designed a hydro renewable energy device that is just about to enter the prototype stage.
Optionally share a hobby or passions I am happy sharing to the community: I stay in Lanark so the countryside is on my doorstep and I love going for long walks to help unwind and keep up some level of fitness.
Personal actions I have taken or plan in their NetZero journey: The circular economy really appeals to me and has got me looking at my own actions and how I can contribute to less waste. I am much more conscious now about simple things such as recycling, when possible, and how it can make a huge difference.
Company actions I have taken to accelerate NetZero: I hope my hydro renewable energy device will soon be at the prototype stage and then the true potential of the device can be assessed.
What expertise, knowledge, services or products they can offer to other members to accelerate their NetZero path: My device produces low cost electricity and has a far greater generating time than conventional wind and wave renewables. When the product is market ready, I genuinely believe that it could help members on their net zero journey.
Finally, Something people might not know about you that makes you memorable:
In 2014, I was in charge of fire service operations for the salvage stage of the first major Glasgow School of Art fire. I was partly responsible for saving some priceless works of art and irreplaceable artifacts. This was achieved due to an innovative approach and using the skills and experiences of all people involved. I hope to use this same methodology in my current role.
